Plunge for the Funds

A cold plunge event to benefit Mid Coast Hospital’s ALS Clinic Patient Assistance Fund

Saturday, May 11th, Spark Cycling Studio

Happy Birthday to Us!

It seems like just yesterday we were opening our doors, hoping we'd meet wonderful people like you. Our expectations have been blown out of the water and we're so lucky to call many of you friends. We are beyond grateful for your commitment to yourself and to our space - we quite simply wouldn't be here without you!
So, how are we celebrating?! By raising money, of course!

Last year, Britt's dad Nick was diagnosed with ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. ALS is a progressive disease in which a person's brain slowly loses connection with the muscles, taking away their ability to walk, talk, eat, and eventually breathe. There is no cure for ALS and treatment is limited to symptom management and clinical trials. It is an extremely expensive disease to live with and the physical, emotional, and financial burden grows as the disease progresses. Mid Coast Hospital is home to the only ALS clinic in the state - patients representing a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds come from all sixteen counties for care, assessments, and support.
On Saturday, May 11th, we'll raise money for the ALS Clinic's Patient Assistance Fund, a philanthropic endowment run by Mid Coast Hospital. This fund helps under-resourced patients get the financial support they need to visit the clinic and generally manage the disease and the complications that come with it.
Since it's our birthday, we thought we'd kick it up a notch beyond our normal donation-based classes...
Remember the Ice Bucket Challenge? In an ode to the summer of 2014 (yup...10 years ago 🙈), we're going to cold plunge in an event we're calling Plunge for the Funds 🥶

Plunges will take places at the studio over the course of the morning on Saturday, May 11th. We’ve got three big tubs that will be outside, rain or shine!

Ways to Participate

  • Option 1: Ride

Take a (free!) class on May 11th, donate, and hop in the tub! Classes will open for booking on Sunday, April 28th at 12pm for all riders (sorry, membership holders, no early booking for you this time!) Spark is pledging $5 for each rider plunge plus $1 for every additional 5 seconds they stay in 😉

  • Option 2: Register

You can join Team Spark or create your own team (email us for this option!) - and send your personal fundraising page to friends and family. They can make a flat donation OR a pledge for each 5 seconds you stay in 🥶 Max time limit is 5 minutes because quite frankly, some of you do this regularly and we don't have all day 😂 Riders may also register through the link and request donations and pledges from friends and family!

  • Option 3: Show up

Show up on May 11th, make a donation, get in that tub 👏🏻

  • Option 4: Make a Donation

Description goes heCold plunging not your thing? Make a donation 💵

Huge thanks to our community partners for their support!

Last, but not least.

Know that everything you do each day to support the studio is the best kind of support you can offer Britt. Many of you have met her dad, Nick, either at the studio or around the Bath/Brunswick area so this event may hold some additional weight. The future is uncertain but Britt, Nick, and their family know that the Spark community will rally to make Plunge for the Funds an incredible event 💙💚

Help us make a difference in the lives of Mainers with ALS
