MEET THE OWNER

Britt Hyde is a life-long athlete and believer in the value of movement in supporting mental, emotional, and physical health. A few years ago, she realized that she was happiest on the days that she exercised with a group of people rather than on her own. A native of West Bath, she saw that the Brunswick area lacked a cycling-focused studio. With the support of the Women’s Business Center, family, and friends, Britt tapped into her 15 years of corporate experience to create a fully inclusive offering to the midcoast.

Founding Spark Cycling was the realization of an entrepreneurial dream but building a space where daily movement is prioritized and recognized for its value has been the real reward. Britt’s vision for Spark is that everyone can find their place in the studio. She wants you to feel at-home the moment you walk into the building, a new family ready to cheer you on each and every day.

When away from the studio, you can usually find Britt outside enjoying everything that Maine has to offer, from the beach to the mountains. She enjoys photography, considers herself a foodie, loves a good rerun of The Great British Baking Show, and is always up for an adventure with family and friends.

HISTORY OF OUR HOME

Brunswick Landing, formerly the Brunswick Naval Air Station, is home to Spark Cycling. The BNAS was built in 1935 as a part of the New Deal and commissioned in 1943 to help train the Royal Navy Fleet. More recently, 10,000+ service members called Brunswick home, flying in support of US and NATO forces and post 9/11 missions. After closing in 2011, the Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Association began plans to repurpose the land and buildings, bringing new jobs and commerce to the area.

While our building resembles a bunker, it was used for HR and payroll services when the base was commissioned. The high windows were designed specifically for ‘discretion’ and a vault continues to have a home in one of the offices. At Spark we believe that what is old can be new again, that history makes for a rich community. We love honoring that history by investing in its future.
